My Goal: finding Joy in the journey

My Goal: finding Joy in the journey

(And helping others find their joy, too!)

I married Bill, the love of my life, at Sand Harbor, Lake Tahoe, on October 1, 1977 with a few of our closest friends looking on. It was a "bring-your-own-beach-chair" affair, the wedding of my dreams!

C. S. Fitzpatrick loves to write—whether it be Christian fantasy stories, books on dyslexia, or short songs and long musicals to bring glory to God. This love of creating and her success were born out of her struggles as a child—she is mildly dyslexic. When she was young, no one recognized her disability, but it impacted her in so many ways:

  • She wrote music as a girl, but because of her dyslexia, she wasn’t able to share her music. (She couldn’t read it smoothly enough to play it, and she couldn’t memorize it either.)

  • Fitzpatrick experienced the same frustration with writing. She had really good ideas for stories, but punctuation was a big problem. Writing wasn’t fun; it was hard work for her. (She still hates commas. They don’t have reliable rules she can learn, and the rules keep changing!)

  • College presented many more obstacles. Fitzpatrick could read, but the information didn’t “stick” unless she heard it. That meant she had to read all of her textbooks into a cassette recorder, then listen to the recordings and take notes—of herself reading it aloud!

So why share all of these struggles? They are what made Fitzpatrick who she is today. Dyslexia is a disability—but it also comes with gifts. She had to learn to work harder and not give up … and humbly ask for help when she needed it. Now, her book on teaching dyslexia has sold thousands of copies, and she has been able to teach her grandchildren how to read so none of them had the problems with reading that she did.

The Prophecy of Kathareon trilogy is another dream coming true. The Lord has opened every door to allow this to happen. He even gave her the perfect husband. Bill patiently encourages both the dining-room-table-homeschooling of their grandchildren as well as her frequent ventures into imaginary worlds. Now, he has become the perfect editor (so she doesn’t have to worry about commas). When they aren’t working on a book, they love to travel the world and spend time with their family in Arizona and Denmark.
