I read this book feeling skeptical with comparisons to other books like the Left Behind series and The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and was pleasantly surprised by the rich, vivid, and sweet storytelling. As a book nerd and fantasy lover, I love the story and how it balances being unique and fresh while incorporating familiar elements. As a mom, I appreciate that the story is clean — no profanity (but some name calling between siblings), no graphic or gruesome details, no surprise sexual content, etc. It feels totally age appropriate and also like a good book for my kids (I read it first.) — there are characters to admire, relate to, learn from, and grow with. Also, the writing style lends itself for a good read-aloud which is great! As an English teacher and tutor, I love that there’s so much to talk about and unpack. As a believer, I love how the story makes Jesus accessible and illustrates what a relationship with Him can look like even if you don’t live in a fantasy world. If you have any tweens or teens in your life, I would highly recommend. If you love a good story, I highly recommend. If you or someone you know needs a story with a happy ending, I highly recommend. It’s not cheesy, but I did tear up a bit at the end because it was just good. My family and I are already looking forward to the next book! I hope it comes out soon!
C.S. Fitzpatrick’s The Mark of the Nemesis is an engaging Christian fantasy novel that I couldn’t put down! Set in the vibrant world of Pyrazo, it follows 13-year-old Jev, a boy who rues his small stature but discovers his God-given purpose as he faces an invasion from the Invisible Realm. The story weaves prophecy, courage, and redemption into a coming-of-age adventure that speaks to young teens and even “golden girls” like me. Fitzpatrick’s engaging writing brings lessons about Jesus, faith, and the Holy Spirit to life without being preachy. Perfect for Christian fantasy fans, this book left me eager for the next in the series! Highly recommend!
If you like the humor of John Flanagan (Ranger's Apprentice), the vivid word-pictures of Madeleine L'Engle (Wrinkle in Time), or the enchanting tales by CS Lewis, that are "more than just stories" (Chronicles of Narnia), then "The Mark of the Nemesis" by CS Fitzpatrcik is a must-read. Whether you are 12 or 90, you'll be swept away by this fun adventure. Imagine the story beginning in a kitchen like your own, but don't get too comfortable! Alongside Jev, his friends, and animal companions, you'll embark on a thrilling journey that's on a desperate win-or-lose timeline. Open the book and dive in--it's an adventure you won't want to miss,
