Winter is coming. There is a strange restlessness in the animals surrounding Asa’s cabin in the aspen grove. Instead of preparing for winter, something has suddenly aroused them, and they are all moving west. The wise old T’Shal knows it is time for Dioko to leave, but is the boy ready?
Asa wondered, Was Dioko’s father able to hold the Old Stone Bridge against the Ugar army from the Krypto-Kosmos. That should delay the evil Sir San for weeks.
But then a furry messenger brings a warning. Evil is on the move.
Asa reaches over and gently touches Dioko’s shoulder. “Wake up, boy. It’s time to go.”
Dioko rubbed the sleep out of his eyes, “Where are we going, Asa? It’s still dark.”
The old man sadly averted his gaze. “We aren’t going anywhere, son. The time has come.”
The young T’Shal sat up quickly, fully awake. “He’s coming?”
“Yes. And the Gates have suddenly appeared.”
Dioko hesitated, then asked, “Where?”
“At Khoramegas …” Dioko felt fear grabbing his stomach and squeeze. Asa continued, “… Sir San is on his way.”
